Water-Facing Distribution and Suitability Space for Rural Mountain Settlements Based on Fractal Theory, South-Western China

The establishment of rural settlements in the topographically complex mountainous area South-Western China is restricted by various geographical features. fractal characteristics and water-facing distribution mountain suitability spaces for were analyzed a greater scientific understanding what factors would facilitate more appropriate selection residential sites. results showed that: (1) Rural have significant characteristics—the dimension values terms elevation, slope, disaster risk, level ranged from 0.853 to 1.071, 0.716 0.997, 0.134 0.243, 0.940 1.110, respectively. (2) value initially increased subsequently decreased with increasing gradually increases slope but wave-curve levels. (3) suitable those low risk slopes less than 5° under 0 ~ 500 m elevation range 1500–2000 m. Currently, 8.77% are situated high-risk sub-high-risk areas. spatial planning national land may enhance consolidation plan placement while avoiding areas ensure safety lives property. this study could be used as reference future revitalization activities site settlements.
